Insecurity: Managing Our Clear And Present Danger

 By Adekunle Adekoya

There can be no further doubt in the minds of the average Nigerian that our dear country faces a clear and present danger on many fronts. The immediate one is the unrelenting wave of terror attacks, exemplified by repeated attacks on communities in Kwara State, which was preceded by abduction of Kebbi school girls, now said to have regained freedom.

Another problem the nation faces is with regard to the procurement, sale and use of narcotics and other psychotropic substances. The NDLEA, under General Mohammed Marwa has been doing a good job on that front, but he needs support. More on that another day.

Trump’s Sabre-Rattling As Wake-Up Call, Shot-In-The-Arm

 By Adekunle Adekoya

It is no longer news that President Donald Trump of the United States has designated our dear country, Nigeria, as a CPC — Country of Particular Concern.

It is also no longer news that the US president further threatened military action against our country should the political leadership fail to curtail what he said was the killing of Christians in Nigeria. Who Will Heal The Northern Nigeria?

 By Sani Danaudi Mohammed

The North is currently facing a crisis of unprecedented proportions. The current wave of conflicts and the resurgence of the Boko Haram insurgency in Borno state, the killings in Benue, Niger, and Plateau states in the North-central call for urgent action. The situation is dire, and the people of the North are crying for help. The attacks have left many dead, while the survivors are living in fear. The North needs healing, and it needs it fast.

The killings in Benue, Niger, and Plateau states are a stark reminder of the security challenges facing the North. The killings are senseless, and the perpetrators seem to have no regard for human life. The federal and state governments are working tirelessly to overcome the situation, but their efforts seem not enough. The people of the North are losing hope, and something needs to be done urgently. The North needs leaders who can bring people together and provide a sense of security and stability.

Now That The Protests Have Begun

 By Adekunle Adekoya

“The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.”Helen Keller (1880-1968)

As I write this, we were in the evening of the first day of protests tagged #EndBadGovernance, organised by several civil society organisations in reaction to the worsening economic situation in the country. The protests were to last from August 1 till the 10th. In the seven or eight days preceding D-Day, organisers of the protests were brought under immense pressure to abort the action, with every appointee of government at both state and federal levels issuing statements on why the protests are needless.
