Corruption: Ghana’s Tsunami

By Emmanuel Graham Nyameke
Ghana becomes second in the just ended AFCORRUP NATIONS COMPETITION.
Not too long ago did the nation formed a new institution to fight corruption. The institution is to prosecute those who champion corrupt acts in the country; but to our greatest surprise, Ghana becomes second in the corruption competition in Africa (AFOCORRUP NATIONS). Oh Ghanaians, is this what we envisage for our children? Hmmm! Even Nigeria now tries to erase that awkward name from her book but Ghana wants it.

Hardly do we experience earthquakes and tsunamis in our country. While some countries in the Asia continent are facing such difficulties and thousands of lives are being lost yearly. Corruption has become Ghana’s greatest natural disaster. In fact, corruption if it were to be a natural disaster like earthquake, it would have taken thousands of life, it not being so but a man made disaster has taken the glory Ghana should have. Corrupt people walk on the high streets free, eating and drinking what they desire while the poor man who as a result of hunger in the nation also caused by the corrupt people, have to spend some good time of his life in jail. One may wonder how judges pronounce judgement on those poor for stealing a goat but can’t do same to those selfish people who drain the economic-blood of Ghana. Shame on us all.
Capital punishment: there should be a law that will allow the wicked to be executed. We came second in the just ended African Corruption competition just because we have refused to execute those who are antagonist of the society. For a society to run well, all those who are evil must be cut off, even when it is your own child. It is by this that the society will be a place so conducive for living. There can only be a peaceful society when those who are evil are set ablaze. Those corrupt people among us are evil and the society cannot hold them.
How do we take our heads off this shameful title as a nation? Education, education, education! As a nation, if we want to eradicate corruption, then we must begin to educate our children. Let us inculcate in our children the culture of selflessness and love for our country which has been detailed in our national anthem. I must say that many Ghanaians are not citizens but see themselves as immigrants who have to make money to make better their home countries. If all Ghanaians see Ghana as their country, they would not treat her as we are witnessing.
Let us not politicize our state as the second corrupt country in Africa but come together with all our strength to uproot the roots of all corruption trees planted in our various institutions.

Ghana Is A Tragic Country!

By Ibrahim Hardi
When I look at Ghana today, many questions come to my mind. The biggest question I find is that in a country so rich and blessed with so much natural resources, why is Ghana ranked among the poorest countries in Africa? Why are Ghanaians still wallowing in abject poverty while tourists flock in our country on a daily basis to view of the beauty of our natural resources? Why do we have foreign investors making lots of money and take the money to enrich their countries? These same investors employ our citizens and subject them to hard labour under poor working conditions and yet underpay them.

I have come to understand that CORRUPTION is the cause of all this tragedy. Corruption is something that we talk about, it is something that we complain about, it is something whose negative impact we recognise, it is something that even the corrupt acknowledge is a bad thing. But the tragedy is that those involved in it love it and those who are not involved in it accommodate it. Our level of tolerance for corruption in Ghana is amazing.

It seems to be in the nature of Ghanaians to jail small thieves and elect the great ones into public office. Today the richest men and women are those who occupy public office. Our politicians will not rest until they have houses in which they will never live in. They have vehicles which they will never drive. They have beds of gold which they will never sleep in because they have no sleep anyway. They buy food which they will never eat because they long lost the appetite.

The Magnitude Of Corruption In Ghana

By Nana Akwah

It must be our ultimatum duty to uphold the fighting of tigers and flies at the same time, resolutely investigating law-breaking cases of leading officials and also to a great extent willing to resolve the abnormal and harmful inclinations and corruption problems which happen all around people.
*John Dramani Mahama

The economy of Ghana is at its worst since it independence. Most of our people poor and they are wallowing in stark poverty and starving on account of the expensive consumer goods.

Basic commodities prices are always on the increase however wages for workers still remain. It is inhumane and unfair for all the hardships the people are going through. All basic needs are continually increasing and the present NDC government is not taking actions but to corrupt!

The economy is down owing to corruption as it is very rampant at high places. The problem with our society is that we can not absolve ourselves from the evil practice. Almost the entire country is caught up in the menace as we find ways to engage in the act.

I sincerely believe that most people will fall prey or get compromised if they had chance to get to the position where they have access. I could vouch that about 75 percent of the people are compromised. Although corruption could be said to be very prevalent among the citizens however, it very sickening to observe the profligacy exhibited by these officials. The least said of them the better.
