Queen Elizabeth II, Britain’s longest reigning monarch, died on Thursday afternoon at the Balmoral Castle, her highly cherished summer home in the Scottish Highlands.
She was on the British throne
for 70 years.
A statement by Buckingham
Palace this afternoon states that “the Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this
afternoon.”
According to the statement which also appeared on Royal Family, the official Twitter handle of the British Royal Family, both “The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this [Thursday, September 8, 2022] evening and will return to London tomorrow.”
There have been intense
speculations about the Queens health following revelations that doctors were
worried about her deteriorating health.
According to a report, “many of her four children, eight grandchildren
and 12 great-grandchildren were at Balmoral or on their way there, including
her son Prince Charles, the heir to the throne.”
Crowds have increased in
front of the Buckingham Palace as news of the queen’s death circulated among
Britons.
Queen Elizabeth was born on 21 April 1926 and crowned the British queen on 2 June 1953.
