Interrogating The Senseless Impunity Of Buhari Regime

By Simeon Nwakaudu
Pure and simple, the sack of Lawal Daura is simply a face saving measure by the most tyrannical administration since the nation returned to democracy. Nobody should be deceived, Daura was simply a scapegoat in a failed coup against the country.
*President Buhari
The courage to hijack the National Assembly was way beyond what a service chief would do without executive directive. The invasion of the National Assembly was a continuation of the Failed APC Federal Government’s horrible soap opera to arm-twist political opponents, using pliant security operatives. The brazen manner the APC Federal Government overthrew the National Assembly Complex embarrassed all black people across the universe and made us a laughing stock.
Therefore, to me, the sack of Former Director General of DSS is a damage control. Osinbajo merely played to the gallery after the robbery of democratic process failed.
I am not deceived by the trickery of Osinbajo. He was aware of the invasion, planned with those interested in illegally impeaching Senate President Bukola Saraki and Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu. Osinbajo was the person who personally briefed Akpabio on the illegality. That meeting was widely circulated by the Presidency. Thereafter, Akpabio reportedly shared hard currency as he went about with DSS Operatives to illegally impeach the Senate leadership.
It was after a meeting with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Monday that Senate APC Leader, Senator Ahmed Lawan said that the Senate will be summarily compelled to reconvene. After that meeting, the DSS struck the following morning.
What Vice President Yemi Osinbajo did by sacking Lawan Daura is what Kidnap Kingpins do each time their boys fail during operations. The kingpins quickly disown their arrested boys as a face-saving measure.
To me, the Vice President is as complicit as Lawan Daura in the disgraceful display by the DSS. The data on ground support this conclusion.
After the failed invasion of the National Assembly, the APC Federal Government has continued to orchestrate impunuty and brazen disregard for the rule of law under the supervision of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
A couple of days ago, the Vice President met with the Acting Chairman of EFCC, Ibrahim Magu at the Presidential Villa. We can now see the outcome of that ignoble meeting.
The APC Federal Government has started an oppressive onslaught on the accounts of PDP State Governments, using the pro-APC EFCC. Magu, lead attack dog of the Buhari administration has frozen the Benue State Government and Akwa Ibom Government accounts.
Governor Wike had this to say: “There is no worse impunity than for the EFCC to shutdown a tier of government through the freezing of the accounts of two State Governments.
“An agency of federal government has frozen the accounts of Akwa Ibom and Benue State Governments . This is the worst coup against the constitution and the law-abiding people of those states.
“But the target is not Benue or Akwa Ibom States. The real target is Rivers State. The EFCC as a federal agency has no business with State Funds. That is the responsibility of the State House of Assembly “.
The aim of the APC Federal Government through the pro-APC EFCC is to cripple governance in the two PDP states. It is unfortunate that the Vice President, a professor of law, would be associated with this unconstitutional act.
There is nowhere in the world where the Federal Government takes deliberate steps to compromise governance at another tier of government. What the EFCC has done in Akwa Ibom and Benue State is as bad as the invasion of the National Assembly. Can Osinbajo claim ignorance of this desecration of governance.
The power that EFCC enjoys over State Governments is an aberration of the form of Government practiced in the country.
According to Wikipedia: “A federation (also known as a federal state) is a political entity characterized by a union of partially self-governing provinces, states, or other regions under a central (federal) government”.
Like most vulnerable agencies in Nigeria, the EFCC has become an enemy of the people. It has become the worst tool used by the Buhari administration to oppress the opposition. It was used to compel Akpabio to defect. Now with the consent of the Vice President, it is being used against Akwa Ibom and Benue people.
The EFCC is a product of an Act of Parliament. But as things stand today, it has outgrown the Parliament. The Acting EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Magu is in office, despite being rejected by the Senate.
Having failed in governance, the APC Federal Government is working round the clock to use security agencies and EFCC to steal a second term. This will fail WOEFULLY like the coup at the National Assembly.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo cannot obtain accolades for denying an agent of the Federal Government who failed in the execution of a coup. Such accolade will only be given to him by people who want to let sleeping dogs to lie. For me, he deserves no accolades. He should be courageous enough to apologise to Nigerians.
The Police only vacated the Benue State House of Assembly on Wednesday. This was after several days of occupation in their attempt to impeach Governor Ortom of Benue State.
This APC Federal Government is an evil wind. It portends danger, not only for the security of the country, but everything we hold sacred. For the first time, we are seeing a Federal Government that delights is destroying Nigeria.
The only choice before Nigerians is to terminate this reign of impunity in 2019. We cannot afford another term of reckless and senseless impunity. That is the only way forward. That’s the only way out of this quagmire.
