*Babachir Lawal |
In a move that may have caught many
Nigerians by surprise, President Muhammadu Buhari has relieved the suspended
Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Babachir Lawal, of his
post.
Also sacked is the Director-General
of the National Intelligence Agency, Mr. Ayo Oke, who has equally been on suspension
following his role in the Ikoyi fund scandal that rocked the nation some months ago.
This was made known by the
president’s special adviser on media, Mr. Femi Adesina.
No one has however been appointed
as replacement for the sacked DG of National Intelligence Agency.
Mr. Babachir was indicted
following an investigation into his role in grass-cutting contracts at the
Internally Displaced Camp (IDP) in the North East.
Following the emergence of the
scandal in the public domain, many Nigerians have been demanding for Babachir’s
sack since the return of Buhari from his medical vacation in London and the submission of the findings of
the Osinabajo Committee which had probed the matter to him.
His delay in acting on the report drew
immense criticism from the polity.
